Our Breeding Stock and our Pets.
Sometimes they are one and the same.

These are our Hogs. We have three Registered Hereford Hogs at this time: Roxanne, who is ready to deliver her first litter any day now, and Eloise and Homer who were born in June 08.  We also have Three crossbred sows: Angelina Jolie (because at the time my son thought she was the most beautiful pig in the world), Lucy, and Bacon.  And last but by far not least is Jungle Pig (potbelly) who got her name because she likes to wander through the tall weeds like a commando in the Jungle.  She has free range of the entire farm and follows me around as I do the chores. there is also her daughter jane who came to live with us just as winter started. they are both bred and will have litters April.
Chickens and More Chickens  Here at the farm we have a large layer flock and are adding an even larger fertile egg and chick production flock. The layer flock consists of Cuckoo Marans (which fast became my favorites when I first got them 5 yrs ago), Production Reds, Americaunas, Australops, Black Sexlinks, a few "your guess is as good as mine" and two Cochin hens that act as brooders.  The fertile egg and chick production flock consists of a variety of Marans: Black Copper, Black, Blue Copper, Blue, Blue Splash and Blue Birchen (I have a thing for blue chickens), Black Jersey Giants, Blue Standard Cochins, Brown Danish Leghorns, Buff Brahamas, Gold Laced Wyndottes and Buckeyes.
I Love Sheep We purchased our first ewe 17 years ago. Actually she was a birthday present for me from my husband.  Having grown up with Sherri Lewis and Lambchop, I needed a sheep.  Because of that first ewe I learned to spin. I had to do something with all that wool.  We have a colorful flock today because I prefer colored sheep as they seem to have less foot problems. The herd ram is a black Dorset Finn cross. The ewe flock is made up of Jacobs, Romanovs, Tunnis, Cheviots, a Shetland, Hampshire crosses, a Tunnis cross and a Merino cross. Sometimes I am not a good farmer - I let my heart rule my head and keep ewes long after the time I should cull them. Some of my ewes are over 10 years old.
